Robert MacCloy Robert MacCloy

At Scrunch, we believe every brand deserves a clear view into how they’re showing up across today’s evolving AI-powered search experiences. That’s why we keep expanding coverage and raising the bar on transparency for all of our customers.

Scrunch now supports Google AI Mode, Google Gemini, and enhanced tracking for ChatGPT Shopping, giving you deeper visibility and more granular insights into how your brand is represented. With these additions, Scrunch AI now tracks 7+ AI models and platforms.

Here’s a closer look at what each of these updates means for your brand.

Google’s evolving search experiences

Google recently introduced Google AI Mode, a new feature that transforms traditional search into a dynamic conversational experience powered by advanced generative AI. AI Mode is built into Google Search and powered by Gemini, delivering rich, context-aware answers, comparisons, and recommendations.

What does Scrunch cover? With this update, Scrunch now has comprehensive coverage across Google’s AI and AI-enabled search experiences. With Scrunch’s new support for Google AI Mode and Google Gemini, you can:

  • Monitor your brand's presence, position, and sentiment across Google’s evolving search experiences.
  • Track how your brand is being featured across owned-brand, third party, and competitive sites.
  • Identify optimization opportunities and gain access to additional prompt-level reporting and performance trends.

Why it matters: Elizabeth (Liz) Reid, Google’s Head of Search, put it: AI Mode represents the future of Search. As these experiences become more common, marketers need deeper visibility into how their brand appears across them.

Understanding Google’s AI Search Experiences (FAQs)

What is Google Gemini?

Gemini is Google’s brand for both:

  • Google’s family of large language models (LLMs) that power features like AI Overviews and AI Mode, providing direct answers, summaries, and recommendations to users.
  • Google’s AI assistant, available at gemini.google.com and throughout Google’s products and experiences. Gemini supports searching and citing sources across the web, as well as generative tasks like writing code, generating images and analyzing data.

What are Google AI Overviews?

Google AI Overviews are Google’s non-conversational knowledge summaries, now a prominent feature for more than 50% of Google search queries and available in over 200 countries.

What is Google AI Mode?

Google AI Mode is a next-generation Google search experience that’s now available in the U.S. and India. AI Mode makes many Google searches in parallel and combines the results to provide comprehensive, detailed answers to users and allows for follow-up questions.

ChatGPT Shopping (Improvements)

We’re also excited to also bring expanded visibility to ChatGPT Shopping, upgrading our ChatGPT Shopping coverage to go beyond simple citations. Scrunch now captures featured product images, reviews, buying options, pricing, and other rich shopping-related data.

Why it matters: Conversational commerce is here to stay. As consumers increasingly turn to AI assistants to research and evaluate products, understanding how your brand shows up in these environments is more critical than ever. With Scrunch’s ChatGPT Shopping improvements, you can:

  • See how your products are displayed, including featured images, descriptions, reviews, and pricing.
  • Track your brand’s visibility across key shopping prompts and competitive categories.
  • Identify which third-party sources and retailers are influencing your product presentation
  • Uncover gaps or inconsistencies in how ChatGPT represents your brand and offerings.
  • Optimize your content and retail partnerships to improve product placement in AI-driven shopping experiences.

Getting started

Google AI Mode, Google Gemini, and ChatGPT Shopping are available to enterprise customers. We’ll be enabling enterprise customers next week and plan to enable all customers by the end of August.

Why we’re doing this

Our goal is to help brands understand and influence how they show up across AI-powered experiences. That means being transparent about how these systems work, expanding coverage as new formats emerge, and always prioritizing the needs of the marketers and content teams navigating this shift.

What’s next? We're already working on our next wave of platform coverage and on giving customers even more powerful capabilities to analyze their performance within platform-specific experiences, like Shopping.
